Well it finally happened, that dreaded phone call "this is the police, your son was hit by a car". along with another kid. I lectured him about not crossing Western Ave. here in Guilderland. It's a busy road especially at 5 PM. He's got some cracked ribs and he's complaining about pain in his pelvic area so they are doing some more tests. His mother is with him now at the hospital. I was there 4 hours. He's 15 years old and I can't follow him around. I hate that he lied to me. I'm very angry but at the same time, what can you do? It won't help to lecture him some more. I guess he's just going to have to be grounded for a few months. I'd like to hope that the pain will teach him a lesson. We'll see. The other kid is in worse shape. I sure hope they learned something from this. Wish me luck.

I hope your son will be all right. I know about 18 years ago I got that "dreaded phone call". It is a terrible feeling and I know what you are going through. Thank God my daughter was not killed as she went through the windshield of the car and when I saw her the blood was dripping down her face. She also hurt her back, but is all right now. Her friend was driving the car and did not see a "stop sign" and was hit by a truck. They both suffered cuts and bruises too and my daughter had to stay out of school as she was on crouches for awhile. I wish you luck with your son.

Oh Herb, so sorry to hear this. But like you said we cannot be around all the time. Believe me, I have been there. Lori was hit head on and it was not her fault, and thank god she was ok, and my other two boys Rolled oner from the front of the blazer a few times, and then my older boy the same day he got his license, he hit another car... Do not know how we survive them, but we do... My prayers are with you and your family.

Herb, All our thoughts are with you and your family tonight. We are raising our 15 year old grandson, and live in constant fear. Hopefully, he will think about your advice while he is getting better. Don't count on it though!

that dreaded phone call "this is the police, your son was hit by a car". along with another kid. ... He's got some cracked ribs and he's complaining about pain in his pelvic area so they are doing some more tests. I'm sorry to hear that Herb. I know how traumatic such a call can be. Thankfully, it appears that he should heal well. I suspect that his seeing the concern and worry in his parents will have a much greater impact on him than any amount of chastisement, lecture or punishment. You might want to play up that aspect ;-). Take care.

Your son is in my prayers. Thank God it is not worse. Yes, when he is recovered you will have to lay down the law but for now, thank God he is healing!

So sorry to hear that news Herb. I got the "dreaded call" one night, atcually it was about 1 am. Thankfully, my oldest son and his girlfriend were both OK. This was not the first time he had been in an accident. Several years earlier he was in a motorcycle accident, again, no serious damage.

Herb, I am praying for your sons' recovery. I think we have all been in your shoes one way or another and it continues with 2 of our grandsons driving now. God Bless.

I'm sorry to hear of your son's accident, but so thankful to hear he's doing well. Somehow, I think his pain and fear and "what might have been" will be the lesson that gets through to him. I had an experience with my son ten years ago when he was a freshman in college. Never a drinker or a partyer, he was dared by his friends to do 'shots' of vodka. Well, 12 shots later, they left him unconscious in the dorm hallway. Had it not been for the dorm residence assistant who found him and got him to a hospital, he would have died of alcohol poisoning. All the talking we did before this happened about drinking at college didn't teach him a lesson. But his experience changed him for good. Literally scared the **** out of him and it was a lesson he never forgot.

Thank you all so much. It turns out that he doesn't have any broken bones, just bruises. He should be back in school by next week. Thanks again.
